Chicagoland Family Pet Expo - Tips for a fun weekend

If you love pets, the place to be this weekend is the Arlington Race Track for the Chicagoland Family Pet Expo. It’s the one place where you’ll find pretty much everything dog, cat, ferrat, rabbit and more under one roof. From rescues to cool products to fun vendors and performing pets, there will be a little something for everyone.

If you’re heading out to the Chicagoland Family Pet Expo, here are some tips to help you see the booths and acts that most pique your interest.

2 for 1 or discount coupons – Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. is a great time to go because it’s the 2 for 1 special at the show – two people get in for the price of one. The show is less crowded than Saturday, giving you a little more space to see everything. If Friday doesn’t work, check out the Dollar off coupon online. Several rescues are also offering the coupon and they get a portion of the proceeds if you download their coupon.

The Extreme Canines Stunt Dog show will perform this weekend.

Pick you favorite acts – There are a lot of fun acts from the Extreme Canine Stunt Show to Happy Jack Trick Act and my two favorites the St. Petricks Day costume contest and the housecat show. Pick the shows you’d really like to see and get there early for a seat.

Map it out – Also check out where some of your favorite vendors and organizations may be online before you go. Plan on stopping at some booths before you hit your favorite acts and others after while at the Chicagoland Family Pet Expo.

Adopt and Shop – There are plenty of pet rescues on hand with lovable pets looking for homes. Check out the pets at the show or spend time interviewing rescue organizations to see what may be a good fit for you. If you’re interested in a specific breed, there are plenty of breed rescues on hand to tell you what you need to know. Shop in their booths and support their work.

Stop by the booth for the Dog Saving Network and see how easy it is to train a rescue dog.

Shop and Learn – There will be plenty of vendors with cool pet products on hand. Stop by and see what is new. While you’re at it, check out booths for other non-profits and educational organizations like The Puppy Mill Project, The Dog Saving Network and Two Million Dogs.

Leave your dog at home – Unlike some of the shows in the area, this is family-friendly, but not pet friendly. Leave your pets a home away from the noise and commotion.

Be prepared – Make sure you have your walking shoes and bottle of water to help you through the long haul.

The Chicagoland Family Pet Expo runs from 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Adults are $10 each (two for one admission on Friday), kids from 3 to 12 are $5 and kids younger than 3 are free. Parking is $6. Learn more online about the rescues, businesses and cool acts. You may also download a coupon for a dollar off and follow the show on Facebook.

    Raining Cats and Dogs

I am a crazy cat lady and puppy mill warrior that blogs to advocate and educate about pet issues. In American animal controls, millions of pets are abandoned each year and an estimated 4 million die just because there are not enough homes. It truly seems like it’s Raining Cats and Dogs.
