Last year we redid our deck and I adore it. It's clean, sleek and will never need any work from us to maintain it. When winter came it felt like we had lost the use of a room. I had a great idea that I am sharing with you. Here's a quick way to get more use out of your deck.
In about February I was missing my deck terribly and I was reading a novel where they went out on the patio and turned on heaters. What a brilliant idea! Why should restaurants have all the extra time on their patios, I want it too!
My husband went online and ordered a heat lamp which he then picked up at Home Depot. It came with a small cover for the heating unit. We bought an additional cover for the entire unit.
We plugged it in and boom, tripped the breaker. Son of a biscuit, what is this? We were able to plug it in inside and snake it out to the deck.
I called an electrician who came and checked things out. Our plug was only 15 amp outlet which was not enough. He replaced it and put in a new breaker in the fuse box.
This was not free, duh, but worth it. We had spent a lot of money redoing the deck and now we could enjoy it.
I've been sitting out there with my cozy heat lamp for two months. I eat breakfast out there with delight. I also read and drink coffee, it's delightful!
My only issue is what will I do in July about too much heat and pesky bugs?
