Holiday fantasies and expectations versus reality

In my fantasy world, all my sewing is done. Months ago! In reality, I was sewing until midnight last night and have more to do today. At dinner time tonight, I am calling it. Whatever is done by then, that is what is getting done.

It seems the holidays are a prism that makes our view of real life sad, painful or blech. I feel like everyone I know is dealing with grief, loss and unhappiness because of the holidays. I am not sure how this happens.

When we are young, the holidays seem like fun. You get presents, eat some food and wear a nice outfit. As time goes on, traditions disrupted and people gone make our memories painful.

Other times we create fun and wild expectations for what will happen over the holidays. Raise your hand if reality has ever not quite measured to what your vision was. Only me? Oh wait, I think I see a few more hands up.

I wish I could soothe your soul and make all the sad parts go away. I know what it's like to be sad this time of year. My own father was officially diagnosed a few days ago with dementia, something we really already knew. Step families I know are having issues as sometimes, divorce is the gift that keeps on giving.  Life can be hard.

I can't give you all a hug but I can maybe give you a laugh. Slight chuckle? Small smile? I hope so.

I was reading various articles on holiday fantasies and expectations versus reality awhen I stumbled upon these memes. They made me laugh and put things in a bit of perspective. I hope they do the same for you.

Enjoy the holidays you have in the next ten days or so. Smile about the one you wish you had had. And hey, I hope you get some time to sew also.

Sew happy!
