You've seen my fabulous new office but not the new wonderful desk and having a messy desk in the kitchen is what motivated this whole room redo. (Well, that and the fact that we were afraid what was living in the chaos formerly known as Shelby's bedroom.) Here is my tiny pigsty that used to be where I did bills, Facebook, letters, blogs, Yelp, taxes, school work and just had a fun time writing or surfing the net.
I emptied every drawer, nook and cranny. I had crammed in unbelievable amounts of stuff in that desk! My daughter and her husband took the desk and gave it a new home in one of their bedrooms. I ordered a spacious desk from the Paula Deen collection and I don't even like Southern Cooking, I just like her furniture. I threw out, recycled and reorganized all my stuff and used the new thread cabinet and a nearly cleared out drawer of the filing cabinet to get everything just right. (This newly liberated drawer had files in it for a class I no longer teach at a former place of employment. Hello space!) Here is my new work space!
Do you see my barn quilt screen saver? It's one of my homage to sewing besides the thread cabinet. I also made a tissue box cover, the instructions are in my blog! The organizer basket had a pretty cheesy cover that came with it. I just untied it, took the pieces apart and used that as a pattern. I had this new one done in these Kaffe Fasset dots in under an hour. I adore it! I even ordered an eye glass tray and coasters in Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night motif. The new lamps has blue birds, it makes me smile.
Are you wondering what became of the cramped little corner in the kitchen? Paula Deen furniture to the rescue again. I ordered her "bar" and I have my Grandmother's dishes in there plus my Irish dishes, both previously crammed into my sideboard. I put my teapot lamp and some favorite Hadley pieces on there for now. I plan to use it for desserts when I have parties and celebrations here. Don't forget to ooh and ah over my swanky new phone, so fun!
I love getting to the age where I can organize my stuff and have things just the way I like them. I hope you can do the same to perk up a corner of your house and then sew something to make it even better. Life is darn good!
