On Second Amendment rights, have we reached the tipping point?

"Declaring the nation united and grieving with 'one heavy heart'  President Donald Trump promised Thursday to tackle school safety and 'the difficult issue of mental health' in response to the deadly shooting in Florida. He made no mention of the scourge of gun violence."     [abcnews.go.com]

Another mass shooting, and what does Trump say?

He wants everybody to kneel and pray.

And he of course shuns

Any mention of guns

Which most of us know make it easy to slay.

  • No, we haven't hit the tipping point. If we didn't at Sandy Hook, this won't do it. I suppose that the NRA's new position is to arm every assistant coach and duck with an AR-47.

  • In reply to jack:

I wonder how the Parkland community will react to Trump's visit after he blamed them for the massacre.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

I hadn't heard that one, but a search verified it. Of course, the big story is that some of them did report it to the FBI, and the FBI admitted that it dropped the ball. So, it comes back to another of his favorite targets.

I find it more interesting that he's had no comment on (1) Rosenstein announcing the indictment of Russian Trolls for Trump (they were suspected on Yahoo comment boards, but nobody has mentioned if they worked the chicagonow comment boards, or those posters sold their souls to Bannon for nothing), and (2) corroborated reports that third parties, including the owner of The National Enquirer, paid off people with stories similar to those of Stormy Daniels. I'm waiting on Daniels's lawyer to make good on his statement that since Cohen breached the nondisclosure agreement, Stormy is free to talk.Jesus may tell Pence to take a dump in his tighty whities.

As far as the neighbors, I'm sure that the ones that are not in Rick Scott's pocket will exercise their First Amendment right to stay home.

  • I remember reading about a group of British survivors who attended a parade during Emperor Hirohito's visit. As he approached, they turned their backs. There's an idea.

  • This may be the tipping point, AW. The Parkland kids are speaking out, telling their stories on social media. They aren't backing down to NRA interests. They are demanding gun control now. I am so proud of them! As a teacher, I know you are, too.

  • In reply to Weather Girl:

    I'm proud of them, too.

  • In reply to Margaret H. Laing:

Yes, this may be the moment, my friend. That link below doesn't seem to work, but i'm sure you will be seeing this speech everywhere. Her name is Emma Gonzalez and her speech is amazing.

  • In reply to Weather Girl:

WG, you know me well. Yes, I am so impressed and encouraged by their common sense, conviction, and heroic voice. Maybe, it will be the tipping point. Hope endures.

  • Here is a link to great speech---
