Is Jon Lester worth $155 million?

Author's note: The following was suggested by "Guest Post : What's wrong with Jon Lester? from ChicagoNow's "Cubs Den" by John Arguello

What's wrong with Jon Lester?

He's been  knocked out twice.

It is a fair question

To ask at his price.

Of course it's too early

The jury's still out.

But watching him  pitch

Is good reason to doubt.

  • What rhymes with "no?"

Of course, Cubs ownership has been taking fans' money for years while intentionally providing an inferior product, so so what if the management blows dough

    and eats crow.

  • No, this will not end well. He's pitch 200 innings a year for the last 8 years.

  • In reply to 4zen:

Commentators have indicated that years 5 and 6 of this contract have probably been written off. What's more disconcerting is that they didn't figure out by year 1 that he can't throw to first base.

You raise the other issue of the "control" system of which Theo is so enamored. By the time these guys reach free agency and get the big pay day, they are already old. BusinessWeek, in an article about the Cubs obviously written before winning the lawsuit but having Toiletgate noted that one of the secrets of SF success was that Bumgarner was still under control and cheap, but Theo doesn't believe in "grow the arms."

  • In reply to jack:

Not surprisingly, the Cubs leadership is keeping its counsel. But Lester's performance has got to be Maddening.

  • In reply to 4zen:

4zen, you think then that he's burned out? This spring he did have a case of dead arm.
