Charles Perrault: His Tales Plumb the Depths of Our Collective Memories

Today is the birthday of Charles Perrault.

Children of all ages his stories do  know:

Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and, of course,  Mother Goose.

In the court of King Louie he was Dr. Seuss.

  • In that the cover you posted has "collected by..." seems to confirm the impression, also stated here that he was only collecting folk tales, not writing them. Of course, the original work was in French.

On the other hand, I don't think there was The Cat in the Hat until Dr. Seuss invented it.

  • Well, there wasn't a Dr. Seuss until Dr. Seuss invented himself -- so I'll accept the comparison!

  • MargaretSerious, absolutely true. But, on the other hand, my poetic license is up to date. Thanks for dropping by.
