  • Somehow I find a similarity between Cabaret and the Broadway version of Springtime for Hitler (with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick).

  • Jack Benny's "To Be Or Not To Be" was also set in Hitler's Germany.
    Mel Brooks did an homage to it with an updated version.

    That I knew from seeing the Brooks version.

    It isn't so much the setting as the "gaiety" of both. In both senses of the term. That's why I referred to the Nathan Lane version.

    In comparison, "To Be or Not to Be" was one of the few Brooks films that I did not take to be a comedy.

    And looking at imdb, actually both versions of "To Be or Not to Be" were set in occupied Poland.
