Jedi MindMeld a Mixed Metaphor? It Wouldn't Matter with These Republicans.

romzekWikipedia: The Ferengi are extraterrestrials from the Star Trek universe who are obsessed with profit and trade and mislead the unwary into unfair deals. They also are misogynists.

Obama really wishes he
Could mind meld with the GOP.

But sadly true he is no Vulcan
And so must put up with their sulkin'.

Yet even if he had that power,
It would be useless at this hour.

Ask any fan of Star Trek, N.G.:
The GOP are quite Ferengi.

  • If you are going in this direction, may as well add C. Montgomery Burns, Herschel Krustofski, and the rest of the Stonecutters. At least a cultural influence to which more of us can relate.

  • Speaking of the Stonecutters, do you think that's how Argo won for Best Picture?

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

I haven't a clue. I thought it was about some corn starch made in Summit.

I have a slightly better idea about Brave. That one came down to Scottish douches playing Scotsmen, as opposed to Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman playing themselves in Wreck it Ralph.

  • Tsk, tsk. You purposely left out the rest of the definition. Ferengi are known for their business acumen. I know you saw it, and decided to go around it and pick the definition back up at misogynists.

Now who's Freudian slip is showing?

  • In reply to 4zen:

He did mention "obsessed with profit and trade." So, it wasn't just misogynists, although one could question his characterization of business acumen.

  • In reply to jack:

'Obsessed with profit and trade' has a negative connotation, whereas 'business acumen' would be a complement. The source he cited clearly had 'business acumen' it in it's definition, but our host chose to ignore it because it didn't fit into his belittling characterization.

  • In reply to 4zen:

Krustofski has business acumen, too, but I wonder what his father Rabbi Krustofski has to say about Krusty's pork product business. As well as others about the sharp objects in the Krusty Os.

I did note that one could question Aquinas wired's characterization thereof.

  • In reply to 4zen:

Is this the same "business acumen" that almost caused the world economy to collapse and had to be bailed out with trillions of dollars from the Fed at ZERO interest? Such a deal!

  • In reply to 4zen:

Not all of the Ferengi traits are shared by the Republicans.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

I had to look this up, and based on this (I'm not sure if this is a source), are you saying that Republicans don't have blue fingernails (I bet Michelle Bachman does) or large ears, are telepathic, or, unlike the Ferengi, "But once you accept that, you'll find they can be a lot of fun? "

  • Of course, Jack, all analogies limp a bit. But Boehner does have the orange glow.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

Apparently from The House of Tan, somehow a descendant of the royal family of Taipei.
