Boehner to the President: Don't Let the Democrats Cow You. Look Who's Talking!

Political note: Speaker of the House, John Boehner, accuses President Obama of being afraid to stand up to the Democrats.

According to Boehner, the Speaker,
Obama is by far the weaker.

But Boehner can't be any stronger
Unless the Tea Party's no longer.

  • The President's speech yesterday was the converse, to the effect that he knows that some of Boehner's group come from districts where the Pres. didn't win, but they have to do something for the country.

I guess the concept of a conference committee has escaped a Congress that does not have a political middle. At least Reid modified his usual "dead on arrival in the Senate" statement.

  • On the subject of compromise, John Kenneth Galbraith once wrote:
"Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists in choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable."

The Republicans want the Democrats to swallow most of the unpalatable to avoid the disastrous.
