Note: President John Tyler was the first vice-president to ascend to the office upon the death of a president---William Henry Harrison. An undistinguished chief executive, he is chiefly remembered as part of the campaign slogan "Tippecanoe and Tyler too". He is also the oldest president to have living grandchildren: Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Jr.(born in 1924) and Harrison Ruffin Tyler (born in 1928).
