Nowadays it seems that to be deemed a “YouTube Star” one doesn't have to possess too much star quality. A product review or a gloriously timed fall might throw one into Youtube Stardom for life. But what about the people that possess star quality on YouTube and ACTUAL LIFE? Well, that’s when I think of my college buddies Aaron, Vinny, and Cooper of FND Films on YouTube.
FND Films is a Chicago based sketch comedy group formed by Aaron Fronk, Vinny DeGaetano and Cooper Johnson. Together they write, shoot, direct, edit and act in all their productions and have been featured on YouTube, College Humor, Funny or Die, and more. Their combined YouTube networks reach 300,000 subscribers and their videos have amassed over 100 million views worldwide. In March 2011 their sketch “Celery” was chosen as Tosh.0’s Viewer Video of the Week on Comedy Central. FND has worked with ad agencies on digital media for Motorola, Taco Bell, Big Lots, and KFC as well as viral content for Nickelodeon. Today FND continues their brand of sketch comedy online, and is currently developing both short and feature films.
Upon entering college back in the stone age of Fall 2007, Vinny and Aaron had already been uploading and managing their own channel, interacting with fans, and creating timelessly funny content. When I heard they hacked their Ohio suburban high school's morning video announcements to play their latest music video of Nelly's “Grillz” featuring costumes, props, and aluminum foil grills on their teeth to match in early 2007, I knew they were destined for greatness. Funny man Cooper Johnson joined the FND crew after meeting in college and movie magic was born, people! While this may seem like a plug for my friends (it is), note that I wouldn't write about some no talent Joe Schmos. These guys are awesome and their work is always top notch.
In 2013 FND released their 40 minute short film Punching, online after a successful Indiegogo campaign that raised $11,000. Last year Punching was an Official Selection at the Portland Film Festival in Portland, OR. FND Films not only demonstrates quality entertainment, they provide a beautifully choreographed production from set, costuming, and not to mention talent. Punching proves their passion goes beyond stupid humor and into something brilliant with some real depth.
WHAT NOW? Aside from me wanting you to watch their stuff online, I also want you to give them your money. FND needs our help! FND Films is looking for support to raise $75,000 for their first feature film. Check it out and donate here!
IT'S ALL GOOD is an action-comedy starring Aaron Fronk, Vinny DeGaetano and Cooper Johnson that blends absurd humor with an intricate plot. The entire film will be shot in the Chicagoland area. The movie will be a large collaboration between FND and outside filmmakers.
“We're very excited to say that this film will be packed to the brim with Chicago influence. The three of us went to school in Chicago, and Cooper grew up in River Forest (a suburb of close proximity), so we all have a great deal of love and commitment to this city. We're working with Chicago actors, Chicago crew, and the story is Chicago centered. We have already begun production, and plan to have the entire film shot by mid November. Plot details are sparse because of MAJOR spoilers, so if you've been let in on the story please keep quiet! If you want to help, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org, and check out the 'BE IN THE MOVIE' perk."
There you have it folks. FND Films is making a movie and want you to be a part of it! Watch Punching and many others, share the love, and donate HERE.
Now I will leave you with one of my favorite shorts from the FND Film clan. This was done in one take, mind you.
