Toews out, Pirri in.

The Blackhawks placed Toews on IR today and recalled Brandon Pirri from Rockford for tonight's rematch against the Predators. BTW, did you know that Pirri is leading the Ice Hogs in scoring?

While it is hard to imagine the Hawks playing without their #1 guy, it hurts even more against the Preds, and even more following the last outing. However, it will give us a chance to see this year's squad without their captain in action.

Sadly, my expectations are low.  A loss could place the Hawks into the number 4 spot in just their division, and would mean 6th in the conference going into the Allstar break, which isn't very far from where they were last year at this point. I know, it is tough out there right now.

Detroit currently has 3 points on the Hawks, and a loss could make it 5.

Pirri centered a line of himself, Hayes and Brunette during practice. This means that we will see a lot of changes in the line-combos, and of course has me doubting. If it were my call, I would throw Pirri right into Toews' spot on the 1st line. Call me crazy, but I like what I see from Pirri, and I would avoid making too many changes. Who then centers the first line? Well, Im not sure Kruger is up for the challenge, but that would be my guess at this point.

It is still uncertain, but Toews might be healthy in time for the Canucks game that would start off their 9 game road trip. If he is not healthy, then I will be concerned.

Good luck Pirri, and good luck Hawks.

  • What are your thoughts, HH.
    Can you go home again?

  • In reply to fourfeather:

You have got to be kidding me.

Would I told you so be a fitting response to the Hawks?

  • Well, I see it as good test of the grit on this team. With close to 50 goals out of the lineup what other chance do they have but to play a north/south game and grind it out. Looking forward to it actually, let's see who steps up tonight.

With CC in net, we'll need to score 3 maybe 4 to win it.

Last game for a week. This all-star game has got to go. The winter classic has supplanted it now.

  • Is any loss an acceptable one? With two losses to Nashville back to back, the Hawks have gone from first in the conference to sixth and there's likely all kinda bitterness about that. After getting flat out dominated the other night, I though this was actually a decent game.

Bickell was in, Frolik was out. Did anyone notice a difference? I didn't, good to see Bickell didn't lose anything being sat for a few games. That Toews fella was also out. Anyone notice a difference there? Yeah. Big time. I'm not going to buy into the "we ran into a hot goalie" story because it's the same thing every time we play the Preds, if you can't beat their man to man defensive scheme, you won't win the game. The Hawks had a lot of great chances tonight and the one goal they did score was the blue print for what you need to do; you need to get Rinne moving side to side and beat him with a quick shot or one timer. There's always a way to look at Q, But with Toews out and the rookies in, this was not a horrible showing.
