From the office of Rep. Joe Walsh (R, Illinois 8th District)…
In response to Walsh- Berman letter, DOJ contacts American victims of Palestinian terrorism
WASHINGTON- Last week, Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-08) learned that the Office of Justice for Victims of Overseas Terrorism at the Department of Justice has finally reached out to the families of American victims of Palestinian terrorism to inform them that it is now working to bring the terrorists responsible to justice in American courts. This action is in direct response to a bipartisan letter led by Reps. Walsh and Berman (CA-28) and signed by 50 other members of Congress to Attorney General Holder. The bipartisan letter urged Holder to uphold U.S. law and bring Palestinian terrorists who have killed and wounded Americans overseas to justice in American courts.
Walsh stated: “While I am disappointed that it has taken the Department of Justice six years to begin this process, I am pleased that it will finally provide closure to grief-stricken American families and bring these Palestinian terrorists to justice.
“This is a perfect example of how Republicans and Democrats can come together on an important issue and stand up for American families. Without Ranking Member Berman’s support and efforts, our letter would not have had such a powerful effect. I look forward to continuing to work with Chairwoman Ros-Lehtinen, Ranking Member Berman, and members on both sides of the aisle as we follow through on the promise made to these American families and bring these Palestinian terrorists to justice.”
