Charles Thomas: Speaker Mike Madigan was the “Master” and he had these black overseers that kept all the “Darkies” in line.
Charles Thomas: I said to JB Pritzker, “You know the Building Trades Council [who Pritzker had just told us endorsed him] hires all the people who work on the construction sites, and they don’t hire any Black people. I said, What’s up with that, JB?
Tonight’s City of Chicago edition of Public Affairs features Charles Thomas, co-host with Maze Jackson on WVON’s Morning drive progam, being interviewed by show host Jeff Berkowitz about the candidates for IL Governor and how Thomas is now [since he left ABC-7 in Chicago] able to focus on issues relating to black people in Chicago.
Tonight’s Public Affairs show airs at 8:30 pm and Midnight on Cable Ch. 21 [CAN TV] throughout the City of Chicago.
Charles Thomas (1690 AM Radio): We [Maze Jackson & I on an old podcast taped in the Western suburbs] talked about politicians in Chicago as they affected black people- [as if Blacks were on] a Plantation where Speaker Mike Madigan was the “Master” and he had these black overseers that kept all the “Darkies” in line.
Jeff Berkowitz: Who were the black overseers?
Charles Thomas: The black politicians [State legislators, Chicago Aldermen, etc.]
Berkowitz: Name names
Thomas: The IL state legislative Black Caucus
Berkowitz: State Rep. Christian Mitchell [From UChicago, Hyde Park, etc.]
Charles Thomas: Yeah, he’s one of them.
Berkowitz: State Rep. Christian Mitchell is a Black Overseer on Speaker Madigan’s Plantation?
Charles Thomas: He is one of the black people who serve Mike Madigan and not the black community. They [the black politicians] are all like that.

Charles Thomas: JB Pritzker came on the show [WVON, 1690 AM radio, Jackson and Thomas, morning drive, 6 am to 9 am, M-F] and he said: “By the way, I just got endorsed last week by the Chicago Building Trades Council. “ I said, “You know the Building Trades Council hires all the people who work on the construction sites, and they don’t hire any Black people. I said, What’s up with that, JB? We don’t think that’s such a great thing that you’ve got these people that a lot of black people think are racists—that are endorsing you. Man, Pritzker didn’t know what to do. You should have seen Pritzker’s guy—He’s saying to himself, ‘Oh my God, we didn’t think about that in our talking points.’”
