Way better than Tom Cruise w/Katie Holmes: Berkowitz w/State Rep. Darlene Senger on Fixing Illinois

You can find out how Illinois can have money to educate, medicate and incarcerate-- and keep taxes and spending low-- by watching State Rep. Senger go at it with Public Affairs show host Jeff Berkowitz tonight in 10 North Shore suburbs and throughout the city of Chicago and tomorrow night in 24 North and Northwest Chicago Metro suburbs.

At the end of May, all the public policy wonks were talking about how urgent it was that we have state employee pension reform.  But, no more, yesterday on Fox Chicago Sunday, not a word from co-hosts Flannery or Placko about state employee pension reform.  Not a word from long time (forever?) Democratic House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie about state employee pension reform.  Plenty of obligatory words about the need for more gun control from Currie, but not a word about how Illinois healthcare, education and law enforcement spending and cuts in taxes are being crowded out by unaffordable and unfunded state employee pensions.

But, the one show that can be counted on to bring to the important public policy issues of the day?  Yup, you got it. Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz.  So, we ask you, does  featured guest State Rep. Darlene Senger have all the answers to how state employee pension reform can be achieved? Substantive answers? political answers? Was Mayor Daley right? Does good policy make good politics?  Or, will your elected state legislators wimp and wuss out on you again.  That is, do what they did in 2010?  Then, they let the lame duck rule. The lame ducks raised your state income taxes six billion dollars. Increasing government spending by about 20%? Will the lame ducks rule once again when it comes to state employee pension reform?   Tune in to Public Affairs and find out.  You can  (Watch State Rep. Darlene Senger (R-Naperville) here

This week's Chicago Suburban edition of Public Affairs, featuring State Rep. Darlene Senger debating and discussing with show host Jeff Berkowitz how the "Lame Ducks rule," Speaker Madigan's poison pill, why the Republicans don't want to listen to John Tillman of the the Illinois Policy Institute and Speaker Mike's call to do a cost shift on school pension costs, what real state employee pension reform would look like, why Illinois is unlikely to have pension reform prior to the November 6, 2012 election,  and much, much more, airs  tonight throughout the City of Chicago and ten North Shore suburbs and tomorrow night in 24 North and Northwest Chicago suburbs at 8:30 pm on Cable Ch. 19 or Cable Ch. 35  (See, below, for a detailed airing schedule of the show).
