State Rep. David Harris: [Rhode Island] had a state leader, their Treasurer, Gina Raimondo. Gina Ramondo went to all of the little villages and hamlets and cities and towns throughout Rhode Island and said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, this State has a serious pension problem and if we don’t act, we’re going to be lost and she mobilized the citizens to get their legislators to act. We need leadership like that in Illinois

Jeff Berkowitz: Your complaint is, you’re saying that Governor Pat Quinn didn’t do what Raimondo did in Rhode Island, that State Treasurer went village to village, hamlet to hamlet, arguing for that—Quinn came up with a pension reform proposal, he let it sit he didn’t exercise leadership. That’s your point, we’re not saying we agree with you…we hope Gov. Pat Quinn will come on this show and exercise leadership by telling our viewers in Rockford, in Aurora, in Chicago and indeed, around the State of Illinois where we often air on the Illinois Channel what needs to be done on [state employee pension reform]. He should do that, right?

State Rep. David Harris: That’s the power of the bully pulpit.

Jeff Berkowitz: But, to be fair, the Republican leaders should do that, too. Radogno should do that, Cross should do that.

State Rep. David Harris: No, they don’t have the same bully pulpit.

Jeff Berkowitz: Well, let them argue and if the media don’t cover it, then you could make that point. But, they could go from hamlet to hamlet…

State Rep. David Harris: People know who the Governor is; they don’t know who the minority leader of the House is…
