This spring is all about making a statement with bright, bold colors. Eyes, cheeks, lips, you name it. The brighter, the better. With virtually every line jumping on the neon bandwagon, there are plenty of choices and something for everyone.
The easiest place to start experimenting with colors is the eyes. You have a large range of products and you can ease into the bolder shades. A really easy to use product is the Tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner. Just a quick swipe on your upper eyelid will add a pop of color to brighten up your look. This eyeliner pen is waterproof and available in 8 different colors, including my favorite, periwinkle.
If you're feeling more daring, go for a jewel-toned color to really draw attention to your eyes. Try Make Up For Ever's Aqua Cream in Emerald Green. This ultra-pigmented, waterproof cream is long-lasting and won't crease after having it on for an hour. Another great product is Armani's Transluminence La Femme Bleue shadow palette. You can start with the jewel-toned green or blue for daytime and build up to a smokey eye for evening.
Colorful cheeks are back and the perfect way to brighten up your face after being inside for the last four months. Choose brighter pinks or fuchsias over the nude or pale pinks. A favorite of mine is Givenchy Blush Gelee in Candide Pink. It's a soft, jelly texture that isn't sticky and you can build up from a lighter, natural shade to a bold pink.
Bold lips can be a little intimidating, but if done right, you'll love them. If i had to offer one piece of advice, it would be to keep your lips moisturized. Nothing looks worse than dry, flakey lips coated in bright lipstick (see previous post about Lush lip scrub). As far as lip color goes, the best colors of lipstick and glosses I've seen have all been coral. You can find anything from a light, peachy coral to a vibrant, orange coral. I love Kat Von D's lipstick in A-Go-Go. It's long-lasting and has enough shine to wear without a gloss over it.
All of these trends are so easy to do and the outcome will be great, whether you go right for the bright pink cheeks or start with a subtle change. Just remember, when it comes to bright colors like this, you don't have to do everything at once. Just focus on one thing at a time. Wearing bright blue eyeshadow? Maybe stick to a lighter lip and cheek. We don't want to end up looking like MiMi, do we?
