A Look Back at Elizabeth Taylor's Style and Beauty

From her pouty red lips to her bold brows to her violet eyes, Elizabeth Taylor was truly an icon on and off the big screen. To pay homage to such an iconic beauty, we have put together some tips and tricks to help you achieve the glamorous look that she was so well known for. The first things I notice when I see Elizabeth Taylor are her dramatic eyebrows. This is such an easy thing to do and makes a huge difference. My eyebrows are really light and sparse, so when I discovered this trick, it completely changed my makeup routine. First, I'd recommend going in for a brow consultation. I love the services at Benefit (they offer waxing, threading and tinting) and they have really great products for eyebrows. My favorite is the brows-a-go-go. It comes with two shades of powder filler, a wax to hold them in place, an application brush, tweezers, highlighter shadows and a liner.

Another timeless look is the pouty red lip. The best tip I've ever received came from one of Eliza's Pretty Cheap blogs and I don't even attempt bold lipstick without doing it. Brush your lips with your toothbrush before applying your lipstick. So easy and it eliminates the gross, scaly thing that happens if your lips aren't in perfect condition. And let's be honest, it's March in Chicago, so they probably aren't. My favorite red lipstick is MAC's Russian Red. It's the fire engine red that Madonna wore and made famous. It's a long lasting matte red and perfect for achieving a bold look.
To top it off, you can't forget perfume. Elizabeth Taylor once said: 'I think [perfume] is more than just an accessory for a woman. It's part of her aura. I wear it even when I'm alone.' With ten different fragrances released from 1987 all the way up to last year, including White Diamonds, Taylor was one of the first women to release her own fragrance. White Diamonds continues to be a best seller and you can find it virtually anywhere, including Macy's and Ulta.

  • What a beauty! I am a true believer that you need a solid brow sculpt to complete your look. If any readers are out in the burbs, visit B-Shique Brow Boutique in St. Charles. I have had my brows done at several establishments and never started to get compliments on my brows until I visited B-Shique. Whatever they are doing there is almost magical! ;)
In regards to lip color, I have a thin lip and find that a super bold red is not very attractive on me. If you don't have a good pouty lip, what color would you recommend? Thanks!

  • Hi Elizabeth! Great recommendation for a brow spot! As far as the red lipstick goes, I've found that with smaller lips, a little bit of gloss goes a long way. Try a red or berry color. If you avoid a matte finish, they'll look more plump. I like Buxom by Bare Escentuals and you can find that at Ulta. Thanks for the question!

I have been a fan of gloss for years, so I will stick with your suggestion. I usually go a little more dramatic with my eyes, as they are my better feature! Thanks for the product suggestion, too!
