Botox before you are 30? Gasp!

Heidi Montag has been on the tip of every ones lips as of late. The already stunning young woman (dude forget about the hype and just think if she was not famous and crossed your path on the street your jaw would drop) decided to under go 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day. Now keep in mind that the girl is really young and had already had some work done so the shock value is high. Yea, it's Hollywood and people get things done on the reg there but for some reason people found this set of procedures out of control. In her defense she did get the epic amount of face work done and then wayyy before the swelling went down she was doing photo shoots and interviews. I have a feeling in a few months when her face chills things with be kind of ok so chill out. The real question is... why is the word so freaked out in the first place?

Do we hate beauty addictions? Well then we would hate a lot of people because a lot of us get our hair cut. We  every 3 weeks. We wear makeup, we polish our nails, mine are drying right now as I write this.

Do we hate young people wanting to change what they were given naturally? Hum well then we would hate girls that spray tan, wear high heels, lashes, nails or makeup. Right?

Do we hate fake anything? Chances are that you know someone who has had work done they just don't talk about it. Do we hate bottle blonde's? Nah not if it looks good and if it's "done right."

Why am I asking so many questions and why do I care? EEEP THIS BLOG IS ABOUT TO GET MAD REAL FOR ME, WATCH OUT!!!

I care because I am 28 years old (almost 29 in May) and my face is changing! In most ways I feel more beautiful than ever before but there is no denying that things are changing. When you are in the beauty industry you spend a lot of time looking at the look of others and the look of yourself. I try not to think of it as an addiction and as more of a hobby and a way to express myself. I like making others feel good and I like feeling good myself.

I know that a lot of people don't talk about it but, I am willing to step out and talk about it. I think that we are told that until we "look old" to others we are not allowed to say that we are looking older. People think that if you notice an actual change in your face or body for the worse that you are "freaking out" or that "you might have a problem." Nah, the truth is that if you don't like something about yourself and it is within your means to change it. Go change it! If you want to be blonde and if you want Botox, then go out and get it! No one should be stopping you!

My famous line is, "an amped up version of what you were given naturally is what you should be going for when it comes to beauty." I decided to do that very thing with my face. Was there anything that wrong with my face? Not really, but why not feel outstanding every single day? (Oh hey don't worry, I do understand that really beauty comes from within blended with my self confidence from cultivating my personal talents etc. Yea I got all of that on lock down. Thanks Mom and Dad!)  What is out there to help a girl like me? Drum roll please..... I wanted my first taste of Botox and Juvederm!

I thought long and hard about the Botox and filler Juvederm side of life. Yes there are risks (Um dah, talk to the Dr. about that before you even think about going and make your own decision) and yes there are benefits. Was it worth it? Did I NEED it? Would I look like a freak? What would my Mom say? I thought long and hard about it and after a year of thinking about it seriously I was ready to take the plunge.

So, I know that this blog is called "Pretty Cheap" and as you may or may not know one of my personal things is that when it comes to beauty, cheap may or may not always be the most cost effective way to go. In other words when it comes to this issue you get what you pay for and when it comes to something as serious as this, you want the best. Period. Yeah, I saw the Tyra show on at home injections and it freaked me out. If you want to look like you had bad work done on your body and face then pay less and you will get what you want. If you get trashy work it is going to cost you more to fix it then if you just get it done right the first time.

I decided to ask Dr. Jeffrey Weinzweig, MD, FACS to do the honors of my first injections. Did I mention that he has a blog on Chicagonow.com called "Ask Dr. Jeff" that can be found here?www.chicagonow.com/blogs/ask-dr-jeff/ I had met him once before and I knew his stance on beauty is the same as mine. Kick up nature and you have done your job! Now did I mention that I rigged my best friend of all time Jenna to come along with for similar injections? I know, I probably sounded brave until I said that.

I am going to break it down. We went in for a pre consultation where we talked with Dr. Jeff and he gave us the score. He did his job well and was open and honest with us. If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor, um get a new one. This is a must! We talked about what we would do and how he would do it. Aftercare and possible side effects were also discussed. We came back in a week later and both Jenna and I got a small amount of Botox and Juvederm filler done in the face and in the lips. My personal fave was the small shot that Dr. Jeff did under the brow arch of both of us to give us a tiny lift. I noticed that a lot! Jenna and I received slightly different amounts of both Botox and Juvederm in different places but for the most part it was the same thing. No, the Botox did not hurt and yes the filler did hurt for me but not for Jenna (let's face it she is one tough cookie!) We were both numbed and taken very good care of.

One of the best moments of my life was while I was doing my makeup to go to work a week after the injections. I almost started to cry and I shot Dr. Jeff a text simply saying "I have never loved my face more or been so happy with my face. Thank you!" For a woman that looks in the mirror a lot, that is a big huge deal at almost 29 years of age! I still look at Jenna while we are watching a crap TV show and say, "Dang, you look really beautiful!"

I will let you be the judge. Do we look like freaks obsessed with beauty? I wanted to prove to the world that Heidi Montag is not the face of females in their 20's getting procedures. The real people in there 20's getting procedures done are the secretaries at your offices, the teacher that lives next door, your barber and maybe even the manger at your fave clothing store. Everyone is getting it done I know because people sing like a canary when they get in the salon chair and they tell me EVERYTHING! We don't look like freaks, we are not obsessed and miserable. We are normal and we want to be the best that we can be today inside and out!

Thank you so very much to Dr. Jeffrey Weinzweig for understanding how to help me feel and look my best and for being just an all around outstanding human. For more info on Dr. Jeff peep the bottom of this blog.

What does Jenna have to say?
"I couldn't believe I had let Eliza talk me into this, but I'm so glad she did. I'm completely thrilled with the results and the process couldn't have been easier. Dr. Jeff was so helpful and understanding of our concerns. He made me feel totally comfortable and at ease even though I had 100 needles coming at my face. This was the perfect thing for me. I look great and have received so many compliments. I am actually looking forward to going back!"

  • You both look gorgeous! I'm a bit older than both of you and I know I don't look my age, but I'd consider certain things if I could a)afford it right now and b)know it was safe. I think if people really wanted everyone to be au natural we'd all be hairy and look really tired. So good job! *three thumbs up!* ;)

  • You two look beautiful! Definitely not freaky or overdone. I would however like to see before and afters as comparison. Just so I can consider what I might do. Great post!

  • I have mixed feelings about this however...

I have read research that shows getting botox once a year in your mid- to late-twenties (when you don't necessarily need it) can actually prevent aging in the future. I believe the idea is that it relaxes the muscles, thus, stops lines from becoming prominent as opposed to using it after they are already a problem. Preventative care is always better than repairing existing damage.

  • You girls both look great! I think that people should truly do what makes them happy, and not just for the sake of looking good for others, kind of like what you mentioned. I've always wanted to get some minor work done too, I'll admit, but I am pretty freaked by botox simply because it's a localized poison that you're injecting into your skin, and your skin absorbs whatever you put into it..I might be wrong though.

That aside, he did great work on you both :)

  • What are you going to do when you turn 30?
