OK guys I am not going to lie here, I do this thing that I like to call my "hair crush." My hair crushes are people with fab hair that I personally would kill to have. I share my crushes with you every week so that you can get new ideas for yourself and so you can also stay on trend with hair and make up etc. That being said, I think I just went from having a "hair crush" to full blown "hair love!" Kelli Zink has stolen my heart so much so that you just might see me standing outside of www.celebtv.com with a boom box, even in this cold weather.
Kelli Zink first caught my eye in the pages of a few local Chicago magazines. She literally jumped off the pages with her stunning hair and skin. "Who is this girl and what is she using because she is beautiful!?" Two mins later, we were on the phone talking about hair, makeup, diet and skin and my crush became a love. This has to make a girl wonder... now why isnt' that easy to get into contact with the guys I want to talk to? Answer. Who cares, this convo was more fun than any convo I have ever had with a guy hands down. Ha!
Who is Kelli Zink? She is a hard working woman that in her own words, "Wants to tell the stories of famous people!" After paying her dues and getting a start in sports reporting she then spent 4 years working in production in Los Angeles. (I mean, I'm sure there is a lot more work in there but I am just trying to cut to the beauty part as quickly as possible! Ha!) Kelli def knows what she wants and she knows for sure what it's like to be on both sides of the camera. That kind of experience and knowledge is priceless in the entertainment industry. Kelli told me that her goal is not to be famous, but rather to make sure that the stories of celebrities get told. She now lives in Chicago and has, "Fallen in love with the city." When I asked her where she finds time for fun amidst all of the work Kelli admits that she loves her job and a lot of the people that she gets a chance to work with. I mean the girl did just land back in Chicago after covering the Grammys in L.A. so maybe my question was kind of whack. Kelli did say though that she is, "Single and would like to find a teammate." Join the club girl.
So when it comes to beauty tips and tricks Kelli was all to happy to spill the beans and of course I was all to happy to listen. Kelli starts off by giving all of the glory to her long time hair stylist Aaron Scott at the Charles Ifergan Salon on Oak St. in Chicago. I like the sounds of Aaron already because he purchased clip in extensions for Kelli at Sally Beauty Supply and colored them to match her hair! Aaron then taught her how to wear the extensions and curl them so that they look natural. I just love stylists that teach and go the extra mile! Kelli is now sporting a new shorter do' done by Alexis at Taylor Reese that she loves. She tells me that her mother was not to keen on her having short hair when she is younger so this is the shortest hair she has had as of yet.
While talking to Kelli her beauty message became very clear to me. When it comes to hair and skin she starts with the basics and keeps it simple. Kelli eats right, exercises, and loves on her skin. She also leaves the dirty work up to the pros by having a great dermatologist and hairstylist. Its genius ans simple really!
As for food Kelli is what she likes to call a, "Seagen." A vegan that eats seafood. Kelli gets in a lot of veggies and good fats daily. She stopped counting calories a long time ago and feels better now than ever. She exercises frequently and drinks a lot of water. She eats no dairy products and takes a lot of vitamins and supplements. Kelli likes to get the natural glow from the inside out!
When it comes to skin care Kelli is doing all of the right things! She sees a dermatologist, gets microdermabrasion and uses Retin A. Kelli is a firm believer in the Clairisonic brush (this part of the convo was prob my tipping point into love btw) and Crem de la mer facial cream. When I asked if there were any drug store products that she could recommend she answered, "Aquphor!" Kelli told me that you can use this anywhere on the face including the lips.
I asked Kelli what her fave cosmetic was and she quickly said that Nars foundation changed her life and that she uses the green Smashbox primer underneath. She picked up tricks from makeup artists over the years and now does her own face of makeup! I loves that as well! I also love that when I asked her about nail salons around the city she answered with, "Whatever is fast and cheap."
Long and short Kelli Zink understands a few and important and key factors about beauty that even I need to be reminded of from time to time. When you treat your body right you will literally shine from the inside out. She takes care of herself and that is why she popped off of those pages and became a person of interest to me. She spends money and time on the products and people that she trust to keep her looking beautiful. For Kelli it is not about vanity it is about how she feels and she understands that is what beauty is about. Kelli Zink, today you went from a hair crush to a hair love.... keep up the good work!
