You want to read great books, like The Snowy Day and The Polar Express to your kids. But you need a shortcut to find them. You don't have hours and hours to search for the proverbial needle in a haystack on Amazon.com or to spend an hour searching the shelves of your local library to discover these treasures in print. You need a quick and easy place to find wonderful books for your young child.
The good news is that there is such a source. Each year, the Caldecott Awards are given to the best picture books for children. These stories are richly illustrated and well-written tales which will expand your child's imagination, warm your child's heart, and ignite your child's love of books. In addition to The Snowy Day and The Polar Express , there are many other Caldecott Award books which are just as special even though they may not be as familiar.
Visit the web site listed below and find wonderful books to read to your kids. It lists the titles, authors, and many have a short description. http://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/caldecottmedal/caldecotthonors/caldecottmedal
Make a list of the ones that sound promising and take the list to your library. Some of these books are available in audio books as well as print editions. Check out several so you can see which ones your child enjoys before buying any. Personally, with the forecast we're getting, I recommend The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, but look at the list make your own selections. Enjoy!
It's a web site Wednesday. Each Wednesday, I share a web site with information that's helpful to parents of young children.
