The Chicago Public League has been shut out of the 2012-2013 State Finals in Class 2A after Chicago Lake View and Washington lost in Tuesday's Super-Sectionals. No doubt there are many disappointed fans who were hoping for what looked like the possibility of an All-Chicago 2A Final. Both squads had a tremendous season and deserve the recognition they have earned this season. Thanks for a wonderful season! Peoria Notre Dame, meanwhile, is the only team to return from last season's Final Four and look like the team to beat this weekend. However they will need to get by Wheaton Academy before earning a shot versus the winner of Urbana / St. Viator.

In Class 3A, Gurnee Warren and Naperville Central will both be out looking to avenge heart-breaking losses in last year's Semi-Finals where Gurnee Warren lost on Penalty Kicks to Palatine Fremd and Naperville Central lost in Overtime to Berwyn Morton. And just as last year's tournament was a tough nut to crack so it will be this year as Lincolnshire Stevenson and Orland Park's Sandburg both have championship caliber squads.

Soccer fans are fortunate this year as every team in the 2A / 3A Final Fours are capable of winning a State Championship and that isn't always the case. So expect these eight teams to contest every pass and/or shot. The action will definitely be fast and furious until the final whistle is blown. These two championships will be hard-earned!

As always - I wish all the participants the best of luck in their pursuit of a championship trophy this weekend.

The 2012-2013 State Finals will again be contested at Lincoln-Way North High School so there is absolutely no reason for fans of Soccer Football to miss out on the action. Although I would have like to see the Tournament played at Toyota Park to give the teams an extra thrill by playing on a professional pitch, there is nothing little league about Lincoln-Way North and is just as accessible from anywhere in the metropolitan area. So those who prefer the European version of Football - not only do you have a great tournament this weekend but a very affordable one too. So please, give these student-athletes the support they deserve.
