IHSA Boys Basketball: The Class 3A / 4A Final Four's Are Set. Previews and Tuesday's Super-Sectional Results.

The IHSA Class 3A & 4A Final Four's are all set after Tuesday Night's Super-Sectionals. In 3A, the Chicago Metro Area will be represented by the Hillcrest Hawks (26-5) and must get by the very formidable Peoria Central Lions (26-3). The winner of that contest would meet the winner of the North Chicago Warhawks (24-6) vs. the Springfield Lanphier Lions (28-3). This is a very tough Final Four and any of these teams could emerge as the State Champion, but I think the Springfield Lanphier Lions are the team to beat here. They are rock solid offensively and defensively. But as they say...on any given day? We'll see how it shakes out, like I said this is a very tough Final Four.

In 4A we have much the same, although Chicago Simeon (31-1) looks like the team to beat. They are tournament tough and Jabari Parker is an outstanding floor leader for the Wolverines. We shouldn't take Bloom Township's Blazing Trojans (28-3) lightly though. They beat a tough Edwardsville Tigers squad 53-41. And I have to admit, I was worried that Edwardsville (24-6) was going to win that game. Instead, the only consolation in their loss was that they were the first team to score more than 40 points on them this post season. The winner of Simeon / Bloom must face the winner of the Proviso East Pirates (31-0) / Rockford Auburn Knights (31-2) game. That game could go either way and I wouldn't bet against the Knights after they dispatched Warren in their Super-Sectional Final. The Knights are solid all-around but must contend with the speed of Proviso East. This will be a battle!

All in all, the 3A / 4A Finals could surpass last week's 1A / 2A Finals and that is saying a lot. All games were well-played and competitive to the end. Now we get to see what could be even better high school basketball. What a season this has been!

As always, I wish the participants the best of luck. Making the Final Four is great accomplishment - but holding aloft a State Championship can only happen for one team in each class. Too bad too - because all these kids deserve to be champions.

All Games will be televised on NBC 5.2.
