Illinois State and Western Illinois each moved up in this week's STATS Football Championship Subdivision poll.
Fresh off a 45-0 shutout of Butler, Brock Spack's Redbirds are ranked No. 18 in the country. ISU was 20th in last week's poll.
"Our players and staff have done a good job. We play a lot of players, and we've been able to keep our team fresh," ISU head coach Brock Spack said. "When you put the backups in, you want them to hold the shutout. They did that and played well."
Western jumped three spots after besting Tennessee Tech 41-14 on the road Thursday. The Leathernecks are now No. 22.
"In that 41-14 win we were sloppy at times, we didn't play our best. We got into a nice rhythm and played well in spurts. But we can play so much better," admitted Fisher. "We have some things we need to clean up. We have an idea on where we are at right now, we've got to keep marching forward and get ready to play a really good Northern Arizona team on the road next week."
The Leathernecks travel Northern Arizona for a 6 p.m. Saturday game, while the Redbirds return to action Sept. 16 at Eastern Illinois for a 2 p.m. kickoff, following their bye-week.
