Halibut season is here at Prairie Grass Cafe and Prairie Fire!

On Sunday, March 7th I received an email from Sea2Table that "amidst blizzard warnings, 40 mph winds and 20 foot seas, Alaska's 2010 halibut and black Cod season was declared open last night.  We are waiting on word when the weather breaks enough for Captain John Bahrt and the FV Kristna to set out from Sitka, but we should begin seeing the first fish this week from both Sitka and Homer."

From this email, I deduced that Captain John was the

brave soul. And, he was going to go out and catch my halibut to serve to you.  I ordered for both restaurants to come in Wednesday.

Then I received an email that said "heavy winds and an avalanche in the road has kept our fishermen late in landing today.   We are looking at the first halibut deliveries for Thursday this week.
Last year our season opener was delayed almost two weeks because of daily volcano eruptions disrupting flight paths.  That's Alaska for you."

I will be serving first of the season Wild Alaskan Halibut on Thursday!  I asked if I could have extra Halibut Cheeks for a special Fish and Chips I will be serving too!  Won't that be cheeky!
