August 23 Chicago chefs party to benefit Three Sisters Garden

Tracey's pea shoot tendrils

A few chefs decided to help out Tracey Vowell, former chef of Rick Bayless's restaurants. Tracey and Kathe Roybal own Three Sisters Garden, a very small, sustainably-minded farm just south of Chicago. Now she sells at Green City Market and she delivers me her corn, dried black beans, white corn meal, peppers, tomatoes; her main crop is pea shoot tendrils.  She likes to sell her pea shoots to me alive, in a flat of earth, where they continue to grow in my kitchen. But she can't because she doesn't have room in her truck.  Don't get me wrong they are delicious cut too.  But it's the point, of harvesting them myself for you to eat.  So a few of my friends that also buy from her were standing around before the Chicago Gourmet press conference with Mayor Daley and had this discussion that she was really in a jam with no space to make her deliveries. One thing lead to another and we decided to hold a party to help her raise the money.  We want to do it before the season is over too.

August 23 at 12 o'clock we are going to "throw a party" in front of Red Light Restaurant on Randolph Street.  After a few phone calls, and a lot of excitement and planning, we now have 15 chefs participating in the event.  Here is a list of the chefs that are participating and some of the menu items.

George and I are making crispy Mint Creek Farm
lamb rolls with yogurt dipping sauce and
fresh bloody Mary's made from Three Sisters Garden tomatoes.
