UFC in Chicago last night: Rashad Evans' win served as preparation for Jon Jones match

UFC on FOX last night was much better than I anticipated.  Rashad Evans (17-1-1) vs Phil Davis (9-1) was the headlining bout.  Former Penn State wrestler Davis entered the octagon on a winning streak, yet without truly equal skills to his opponent,  the favored Evans.  Despite Davis not being my first pick for a bout filled with colorful competitive opposition for Season 2 TUF winner Evans, it did go the distance. After 5 rounds, Evans outpointed Davis, which lead to an unanimous decision.   Although I am not in agreement with Evans commented that Davis, ‘bought it,’ last night; I do believe that last night ‘s fight at the United Center with 17.425 fans (equaling $1.2 million in gate sales) provided a mental rites of passage for Jackson camp MMA fighter Evans.   The Evans vs Davis fight  at the United Center was a demonstration in how to execute the crucifix; sadly though, the chapter on how to finish from there was not written.  All in all the fight will serve Evans well.  This 5 round bout is a great platform for Evans to analyze his game and skill set today, so he can move forward towards his match against Jon Jones on April 21, 2012 in Atlanta.
