Strikeforce Using Clever Marketing Tactics for Fedor Fight on Nov. 7 in Chicago
It is rumored that Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers will both appear at the Chicago Bears game against the Cleveland Browns today. Their presence will be a clever cross-promotional tactic to lure football fans to watch next Saturday's MMA event on CBS.
There has been a fair amount of advertising that has been executed to help compete against other Saturday night programming. To their benefit the UFC does not have a card scheduled for that night (their next is one on November 14th). Strikeforce and M-1 Global needs a triumph to gain momentum to keep in the black and avoid the perils that brought down Affliction and other MMA organizations.
Fedor is clearly the biggest thing in MMA today. He is considered the best in the world. He is beloved from both sides of the hemisphere. However, Rogers has a building fanfare, especially since this fight has received so much coverage allowing his history and character to be exposed. Rogers who finally quit his blue collar job working at Sam's Club earlier this year so he could be a full-time MMA pro appeals to so many that have been struggling.
Overall, this fight is great for the MMA world. It is awesome to see a card being put on by someone other than the UFC. I am not a fan of monopolies and really like seeing other organizations prosper and therefore spreading the wealth to new pockets besides Dana White, the Fertata Brothers and UFC's superstars. In fact, I am a die-hard fan of Fedor because he did what he wanted and wasn't just another MMA lemming signing with the UFC, to most likely be shelved after loss.
