Bellator XIV Featuring Local Chicago Fighters

The Bellator Season 2 opener will feature some local Chicago and Illinois-based fighters including the main bout, part of the Welterweight Tournament; former 2008 Olympic wrestler Ben Askren versus Central Illinois native and UFC veteran Ryan "The Tank Engine" Thomas.

Chicago-based Pat Curran, cousin of Jeff Curran, with a winning record of 9-3-0 will take on Canadian Mike Ricci at 155.

Jeff Curran will also be fighting Joe Doeherty

And on the women's side, Chicagoan Felice Herrig was up to fight Caita Vitoria but there has been reports that Vitoria was pulled from this fight.

"I really wish I was still fighting
Felice in Bellator and still don't understand why the commission wouldn't allow
that fight? They claim she had too much experience with that whopping 2-2
record of hers. I feel like they were trying to protect her because I was going
to beat her," comments Vitoria.

This matchup would have been a great win for Herrig as Vitorias beat two notable
fighters, Lynn Alvarez and Michelle Waterson.  Herrig, known for her standup skills has transferred over to
MMA in the past year.  Vitoria is
fighting out of Toronto, Canada and is also known for her Muay Thai
skills. Unfortunately, it's looking like this matchup is going to have to wait.  It is looking like
Jessica Rakoczy may pan out to be Herrig's opponent.  Fightergirls.com
will be at the Chicago Theater to cover this fight.  Missed these girls past fights?  Go to Fightergirls
