MMA NOT Jackie Chan's Thing

Jackie Chan has driven a lot of martial art's popularity over the last decade.  He has really made martial arts look good to skeptical parents who only viewed it as Cobra Kai scene from Karate Kid.  Although he is a huge proponent of kung fu, wushu, karate, tae kwon do, judo and tai chi, Chan is not a fan of MMA.  " I don't like to see Ultimate Fighting," expresses Chan.  Chan explains his opinion, "As a martial artist, I find it too violent putting them (fighters) in a cage.  At the end it's not fighting anymore.  That's not the martial arts.  Martial arts is about respect.  When somebody is knocked down, stop. "

Chan does have an antiquated point of view on the highly evolved sport of MMA.  I don't knock him for it to be honest.  Although a bit geriatric - what my grandfather would say; I think it is fine and actually understand as a traditionally trained martial artist that he views it as a unsportsman-like path of fighting. Truth be told, when the UFC first started I hated it and couldn't really stomach it.  I felt it was violent and lacked a set rules that I felt should govern two people fighting.   Clearly I overcame this.
