Come hear Jarrett Payton speak about bullying prevention at a free public event on March 12.

Did you know Walter Payton's son, Jarrett, was bullied as a teenager?  Come on Wednesday night to hear Jarrett speak about how to further bullying prevention efforts with today's students.  I can't wait to attend and learn what he has to say!

Bullied No More: A Conversation with Jarrett Payton and Camille Paddock
Wednesday, March 12, 2014 - 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Maine West High School Auditorium
1755 S. Wolf Road
Des Plaines, IL

Join over 500 people who have already registered for this outstanding free anti-bullying event with Jarrett Payton (son of legendary Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton) and Camille Paddock, who are appearing together for the first time. You will not want to miss it!

Jarrett will discuss the dynamics of bullying and encourage students to find common ground with classmates. He will highlight the role of bystanders and challenge young people to speak out when they see bullying occur. All forms of bullying will be addressed, including cyberbullying. Jarrett will also share his own experiences with bullying during high school.

Camille, a 15-year-old who was bullied to the point of desperation, will share her personal story of triumph over bullying. She was ruthlessly bullied starting at age nine and eventually withdrew from life and wanted to die to escape the pain. Instead of remaining a victim, Cam took a stand and started her own anti-bullying organization and has spread her message of hope to thousands. Many students have told her they decided not to kill themselves after hearing her inspiring story.

Advanced registration is suggested, but walk-ins are also welcome. This event is ideal for all students, whether targets of bullying, perpetrators, or bystanders. Parents and school personnel are also encouraged to attend. We all have a role to play in ending bullying, so please share this opportunity with others. For more information or to register, visit www.mainetownship.com/bullying.

This exciting presentation is part of an anti-bullying series being held by Maine Township.  On April 17, I will be giving a presentation called Bullying and Social Conflict: Prevention, Intervention, and Reconciliation.   Click here to register!  Thank you to Maine Township for hosting this important series.
