It's Time To Let In the Light

One of the very first things I do when I wake-up each morning is stumble into my living room and draw-up the blinds. Instantly all the dark corners of my apartment fill with light. Bathed in the crisp morning rays I feel revived. I shake off my groggy haze and start my day with a smile.

To say the least, the last 5 days have been intense and have left me with a bit more than a groggy haze. The nation watched in horror as bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, leaving 3 dead and nearly 200 injured. Then news of a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, broke. At least 12 people were killed and the entire town nearly leveled. And then the rains came, and the floodwaters. More than 1000 Chicagoans have already been evacuated from their homes and with most rivers not expected to crest until sometime this weekend it isn't over yet, there is bound to be more flooding and even more evacuations.

And now it’s snowing, ugh! On the whole it’s been a shitty week but hey, Friday has finally arrived and it’s time to draw-up the blinds; turn off the T. V., iphone, ipads or what have you and let some light in. For just a bit, take a break from the news. Order in from your favorite takeout place and watch the backlog of shows you've stored up all month on the DVR or get out of the house. Meet some friends for dinner or go to the movies. The new Tom Cruise sci-fi action flick, Oblivion, opens today. I may not always agree with Mr. Cruise’s personal philosophies but he certainly does give good action flick.

However you decide to spend your Friday night and the coming weekend have some fun! Just because we take some time to smile and laugh a little doesn't mean we have forgotten those who have suffered and are still suffering. Keep them in your heart and prayers but do yourself a favor let a little light in. Treat yourself well.
