A DUET BETWEEN FRIENDS
I love duets between two singers/musicians. It's fun to watch two people feed off each other's energy and take their performance to a higher level. A song is made that much more special when you can watch the performers' expressions and realize what the song means to them. Their passion for music and friendship is well conveyed as they perform their act.
My favorite one (notwithstanding last night's sizzling Oscars) is that between Suzi Quatro and Chris Norman as they sing Stumblin’ In from 1978. It’s a pleasure to watch the two have fun with the song – plus their hairstyles are remarkable. Even with its romantic lyrics, it seems as though Quatro and Norman sing the song as good friends, just enjoying the tune.
Our love is alive, and so we begin
Foolishly laying our hearts on the table
My spouse loves Suzie Quatro as well -- except for different reasons I believe...
What’s that you say? I’m stuck on oldies?
Yes. I am.
KENNY and DOLLY
I love hearing Islands In The Stream with Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Okay, the lyrics are a bit hokey, but I can live with them.
Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in-between
How can we be wrong
All I’m sayin’ is, Dolly and Kenny are ADORABLE. And they both got even richer off that song. $$$ So there.
DON’T GO BREAKIN’ MY HEART
You can’t tell me that you don’t sing along when Elton John and Kiki Dee do their thing. Even if you have to close your eyes in order to block out Ms. Dee’s wardrobe malfunction in this video of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, their sound is amazing and catchy. Go ahead and sing. You know you love it.
THE BEST FOR LAST
If I had to choose my all-time favorite… it is Waiting on a Friend by the Rolling Stones. I first heard that wonderful song when I purchased the Tattoo You album at Chicago Ridge Mall. Listening to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards sing about solid friendship speaks volumes about the connections we share with one another. A bond between friends can be everlasting.
As Mick Jagger said in 1983: "Just let me be cynical for a moment. First of all, it's really NOT about waiting on a woman friend. It's just about a FRIEND; it doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman."
Mick and Keith are living proof.
Do you agree?
