One of the coolest bars in Chicago, with some of the best wings around, Jake Melnick's Corner Tap (41 E. Superior St.) has collaborated with Geneva's Penrose Brewing to create Patio Crusher, an exclusive wheat pale ale with zested citrus. The beer arrived on May 12th at Jake's and will be around for the summer.
Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap Beverage Director Emilie Sharboneau and Operating Partner Tony Bisciglia cruised to Geneva in the spring to meet with Tom Korder, head brewer at Penrose Brewery, earlier this spring to brew the beer on the Penrose brewing system. Here is the video about that awesome collaboration
In addition to Patio Crusher, Jake's has award winning wings and a plethora of great food to go along with thirty six beers on tap, keg cocktails, beer cocktails, and wine on tap - it's a bar that has pretty much anything you'd want. It's also an official Blackhawks bar. Indeed, televisions adorn every wall in the joint. But don't think of this place your common sports bar. Think of it as a sports bar with a little class. It's part gastropub, part sportsbar, part family restaurant. It truly is a place that most people can enjoy. They also have plenty of private space for company parties and wedding rehearsal dinners, to name a few.
Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
And Penrose Brewing Company should not get lost in this story, either. Penrose focuses on Belgian beer, funky brews, and all things aged in barrels. Penrose offers everything from the light touch of a Belgian Pale Ale to the heavy handed, robust flavor of Bourbon Barrel Age Imperial Stouts, not to mention a good Gose or two. I wrote more about Penrose at a tap takeover event they did in Oak Park last July (2015). They are one of the more unique breweries in Chicago, which makes their collaboration with Jake Melnick's Corner Tap a perfect fit - great variety all around, and even greater quality.
