2015 Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity Preview

This week, the stakes portion of the fall Hawthorne meet draws to a close with the Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity, a two-turn dirt stakes for Illinois-bred juvenile males.  That race, which drew a field of seven to contend for a $50,000 guaranteed purse, makes the focus of this stakes preview.  Both of us discuss the race, and give our opinions on what looks to be a thorny affair.

In addition to our preview, Picks and Ponderings will be on site with race-day coverage of the Jim Edgar Illinois Futurity.  You will find live race day coverage on our Twitter feed, @picksponderings, as well as a race recap right here on ChicagoNow.

Be sure also to check out our other stakes previews this weekend.  Nicolle Neulist heads west for the Starlet Stakes (GI) at Los Alamitos; Paul Mazur ventures southeast for the Rampart Stakes (GIII) at Gulfstream.

Edited on December 12 in light of the trainer's scratch of SHOGOOD.
