Patricia (Pat) A. Wentworth (1936-2011) served for many years as an executive board member of the Illinois Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Foundation, ITBOF, a “not-for-profit service corporation, representing Illinois breeders and owners and dedicated to the growth and development of the Illinois state-bred incentive program for Thoroughbreds.” While President of the ITBOF board, the Illinois Debutante was renamed in her honor in 2003.
Restricted to Illinois-bred two-year-old fillies, it offers a $125,000 purse and a peek at the future stars of the state-bred ranks. The Whitworth will be contested at a two-turn mile and a sixteenth on the Hawthorne dirt on December 7.
Last year's winner, My Option, went to capture the Grade Three Arlington Oaks in her three-year-old season.

Hawthorne's morning line maker has given SASY MS ELIZABETH a 2/5 morning line quote based on her two length win in the six-furlong Showtime Deb Stakes against state-breds a month ago. Recall that two starts back she won the All Sold Out at Fairmount by open lengths then went on the shelf. The runner-up out of the Showtime Deb was runner-up last week in a first-level allowance. She was to be pointed for the G3 Delta Princess, but she's taking the local road. She showed in the Showtime Deb she could pull back and inherit. A likely single but watch out for negative show pools, folks. If you can't stomach 2/5 or less on a favorite, try looking at PRAIRIE VISTA. Missed by a neck last time in a maiden special weight rallying wide and two back was midpack in the Showtime Deb. The rail/inside was the place to be in the Showtime Deb, and this one was off the rail. Jockey Marlon St. Julien continues to have a quietly good meet. True, PRAIRIE VISTA has yet to graduate but sometimes these state-bred two-year-old stakes go to horses who do break their maidens especially if the race is weak or if goofy things happen. Two turns is possible as he's by an Illinois Derby winner. PISTOLS DRAWN is one of two in the field from the owner/trainer combination of Asiel Stable/Carlos Silva, the other the aforementioned PRAIRIE VISTA. PISTOLS DRAWN whistled by seventeen last time in the first try around two turns footloose and fancy free on the lead. There won't be a free lunch this time around with most of the field going two turns for the first time. However, Rafael Hernandez has the return call and he's been getting a lot of winners' pictures from climbing aboard Midwest/Brueggemann runners.
#6 SASY MS ELIZABETH (2/5)
#3 PRAIRIE VISTA (5/1)
#5 PISTOLS DRAWN (6/1)
Longshot: Aside from SASY MS ELIZABETH, you have four winless maidens and two horses that are eligible for a first-level allowance. So let's try a winless maiden in #7 BYLIA (30/1). Gets apprentice Stephanie Slinger back aboard, and she was aboard in the horse's best finish, a fifth in a maiden race across town at Arlington. So why endorse off that? Cow Catcher was the filly that won in BYLIA's career debut, the same Cow Catcher that was third in the Showtime Deb and she was in the same zip code at first asking as fellow entrant TANGUERAY MISS. Moreover, she's been plagued by bad gate breaks in her starts and trainer John Wainwright is putting on blinkers, a move that has led to three winners and a money finish in each of the ten tries he's done it. Has experience going two turns when racing at today's distance last time at Churchill.
