Saratoga Bankroll Day 3

In a partnership with Thorofan, we'll be offering Bankroll plays for each day of the Saratoga meet.   Each day, we'll take fifty dollars ($50.00) and use it throughout the card and try to turn it into bigger money.  The goal is simple: end the meet with more than we started.  A scorecard will be maintained.

We remind that picks will be voided in two scenarios: 1) the selection (or part of it) scratches and the picks are not updated to reflect it and 2) the race changes surfaces. Saratoga is famous for its pop-up thunderstorms that deluge in an hour, go away, and leave an off-the-turf card in its wake.

If you're curious why we're doing "Bankroll Day 3" when the day covered is July 22--day four of the meet, an agreement wasn't in place for day 1. So we'll be a day behind.

Day 2 Recap: Yeesh.  Our ladder play for that day ran off the board, so fifty dollars in and zero dollars back.

Now that we have a new fifty dollar bill to spend, let's go!

Saratoga Race Course --  Race 8 -- Allowance Optional Claiming (N3X/$100K) -- One Mile on Inner Turf -- post time 4:47 pm ET

(Reminder: Turf Only) This three-other-allowance optional claimer (the two is up for sale) brings in an electic crowd, featuring FANTASY OF FLIGHT, who cashed checks in female sprints and G2 Everett winner OPEN WATER.  Our play is a mild upset in the form of CORSAGE.  It's a Joel Rosario/Christophe Clement production that makes the first start in the States.  Six starts in Europe, three wins. Trainer is 31% wins with these first-from-Europe types. It is worth noting this one goes first time turf, but pedigree isn't a concern (Exchange Rate is  a competent turf sire, helps when Chester House is the broodmare sire).  PEACE PRESERVER drops from stakes races, but her last win was against strictly three-year olds in the fall at Belmont.  SURE ROUTE projects to get a good trip, and tough to ignore the trainer/owner connections.

#4 CORSAGE (8/1)

#2 SURE ROUTE (6/1)

Longshot: Don't know what she's been beating in Jersey, but #1 ANGEL'S SOUTH (15/1) does take a logical step up in this three-other-than.  Projects as lone speed, and with Paco Lopez up, that means she'll be on the engine.  If they leave her alone on the front end it could spell doom for the others.

Bankroll Play: I don't trust PEACE PRESERVER on the win end, FANTASY OF FLIGHT first time turf, or OPEN WATER on the west-to-east ship.  I think they'll take cash and that means I can get a square price--think 6/1 at worst--on CORSAGE.   Let's keep it easy and go win/place.

Wager: $25 to win, $25 to place on #4 CORSAGE

  • Day 2 Investment: $50
  • Day 2 Return: $0.00
  • Total Return: $86.50
  • Total Investment: $100
  • Meet ROI Entering day 3: -13.5%
  • Meet Profit/Loss Entering Day 3:  $13.50 loss

Good luck!
