Saratoga Bankroll Day 11

In a partnership with Thorofan, we'll be offering Bankroll plays for each day of the Saratoga meet.   Each day, we'll take fifty dollars ($50.00) and use it throughout the card and try to turn it into bigger money.  The goal is simple: end the meet with more than we started.  A scorecard will be maintained at the bottom of the post.

We remind that picks will be voided in two scenarios: 1) the selection (or part of it) scratches and the picks are not updated to reflect it and 2) the race changes surfaces. Saratoga is famous for its pop-up thunderstorms that deluge in an hour, go away, and leave an off-the-turf card in its wake.

An agreement wasn't in place between all parties for day 1. So our piece will be a day behind the current day of the meet.  August 1, which is covered below, is Day 12 of the meet.

Day 10 Recap: STAR CHANNEL was nowhere near the early pace like predicted, and nowhere in the top three.  Another fifty in and zero back.

Now that we have a new fifty dollar bill to spend, let's go!

Saratoga Race Course -- Race 6 -- John Morissey Stakes -- 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt -- post time 3:46 pm ET

SARATOGA SNACKS may be a hunch bet but goes second off the layoff in this sprint stakes restricted to state-breds.  Last time out he won a state-bred stakes downstate at Belmont going seven panels, and it's worth noting he graduated at today's distance at two. Three top two finishes in three career Saratoga starts.  SAGINAW usually takes money at the windows, so it's interesting that he's the 9/5 second choice (as he could be the favorite).  He won a state-bred stakes last out at Belmont at today's distance.  Tough to pull the top two apart, but edge to SARATOGA SNACKS as he has the leading rider (though Alvarado on SAGINAW is no dummy).  The possibility exists of a good amount of speed in here, MINE OVER MATTER likes to rally from out of it, and B SHANNY provides enough one-way speed to set up MINE OVER MATTER, who's been nibbling in these NY-bred events.  Think on his best day he's a cut below the top two, but he could easily get third place money and maybe upset it if things go whacky.  Trainer Hushion is three-for-seven at the meet.

Selections:

#2 SARATOGA SNACKS (7/5)

#3 SAGINAW (9/5)

#4 MINE OVER MATTER (8/1)

Longshot: Like our selector's wagering report after each race, nothing.

Wager: In this field of five, we'll work out of the exotic pools.  On paper, either SARATOGA SNACKS or SAGINAW wins this, so let's look at who could be third and try for a trifecta.  MINE OVER MATTER fits the bill as he's more proven in the state-bred ranks and is a better off-the-pace rallier in a race with speed.  We'll aim to be precise with a trifecta that puts SARATOGA SNACKS and SAGINAW in the top two positions and all three horses in the bottom two positions.  At the NYRA dollar base, that's $4 per ticket.  We'll play it eleven times, bringing us to $44.  The last six dollars goes on an exacta box of the aforementioned three.

Wager:

--$1 Exacta box of 2, 3, 4 (using SARATOGA SNACKS, SAGINAW, MINE OVER MATTER) $6

--$11 Trifecta of 2, 3 / 2, 3, 4 / 2, 3, 4 (using the same three) $44

Scorecard:

  • Day 10 Investment: $50
  • Day 10 Return: $0.00
  • Total Return: $199.75
  • Total Investment: $500.00
  • Meet ROI Entering Current Day: -60.05%
  • Meet Profit/Loss Entering Current Day:  $300.25
