STICKNEY/CICERO--One of the most dependable jockey/trainer teams in Chicago thoroughbred racing chalked up another victory on a mild early December afternoon at Hawthorne Race Course. The team of rider Eddie Perez and trainer Chris Block earned the winning honors in the Pat Whitworth Debutante for two-year-old Illinois-bred fillies. The jockey/trainer team have worked well together so many times that pre-race instructions from traine to jockey were simple.
"You know what you got under you, so go for it," said rider Perez about those instructions after the race to ChicagoNow.
Simple, yet executed to winning glory on MY OPTION, the Whitworth winner. To add familiarity to the connections, MY OPTION is owned by Timothy Keeley, best known for owning recently retired Illinois Champion Turf Female Peyote Patty.
At the break, HUNTGODDESS broke on top with JULMAE in close attendance and favorite MY OPTION tucked in at the rail, tracking in third. The top three maintained their positions through an opening quarter in :24.92 and opening half-mile in :49.87. As HUNTGODDESS started to backpedal, JULMAE got first run and gained a brief lead on the turn. Three-quarters time was 1:15.79. Making a more sustained run was MY OPTION, who took command with a furlong to go and motored away to victory. INDYGO KISS, the Showtime Deb runner-up, picked up the pieces to gain a second, a neck to the better of C'MON FEET who ran an even third. Showtime Deb winner JULMAE held on for fourth. Trainer Block sent out two in the race and the "other" horse trained by Block, SEND THE CHECK, was a dull sixth.

MY OPTION, a two-year-old Illinois bred by Belong To Me, ran the 1 1/16 miles of the Whitworth to win by 4 1/2 lengths on a fast dirt track in 1:48.75. She was bet early and often before the race, and returned $4.00 to win as the solid even money favorite.
The $2 1-3 exacta of MY OPTION and INDYGO KISS paid $25.40. The fifty cent 1-3-8 trifecta of MY OPTION, INDYGO KISS, and C'MON FEET yielded $35.60. Dime superfecta combinations of 1-3-8-6 with JULMAE reporting home fourth netted $37.35.
Special thanks to Hawthorne Asst. GM Jim Miller for considerations.
