On the eve of Hawthorne Showvivor

Before getting to our article's title, some announcements.

  1. If you're waiting for a "Derby Dozen" list, don't worry.  A list will be made shortly.  (It will not reflect the results of this week's prep races, the G2 Risen Star from Fair Grounds in New Orleans nor the G2 Fountain of Youth from Gulfstream in South Florida. The list was submitted to the panel Monday.)
  2. Seeing as how ChicagoNow graciously provides this space, I should make it a point to attend some of their functions.  I'll be at their latest Blathering (Blog + Gathering = Blathering; not a bunch of senseless drivel) on Thursday night. Full report to follow over the weekend.
  3. From the correction department: jockey Jerry La Sala's retirement is a brief one, as he's named to ride on the Friday card at Hawthorne.

We move now to Hawthorne's "Showvivor" Contest.

The Author will be participating in the contest, and as a bonus to you ChicagoNow readers, I'll divulge each day I am alive in the contest what the pick will be.   It's my second Showvivor, as I lasted until Day 3 and finished in the top 10% last time.  We're aiming high this go-around.

The contest starts on Friday February 24 and goes until only one person correctly gets all their horses in the top three  or the end of the meet, whatever comes first.

You can follow its progress each day on Twitter (@heylaserbeam, with a "Twitter Box" on the far right side of the screen) and on the contest's leaderboard;  where I will play using my Twitter name.

The first selection will go live late Thursday/early Friday.  Good luck!
