In 2000, I watched the award-winning documentary, 'Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hill Woods' which forever changed my opinion about the judgment of others and my faith in our justice system. I was not a parent at the time, but the thought of 3 children being horrifyingly murdered is enough to shake anyone to the core-parent or not.
In 1994, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley were convicted of brutally murdering 3 Second Grade boys-Christopher Byers, Michael Moore and Stevie Branch. The documentary, created in 1996, makes a clear argument that the 'West Memphis Three' were wrongfully accused and brought to light the overwhelming criticism of police investigators.
After seeing the documentary, I was compelled to find out more about the West Memphis Three (WM3). Rallying national attention, this case, in my opinion, is a witch hunt pinning a horrific triple murder on 3 young men because they were troubled teenagers, one of which practiced Wicca.
At 10 am today, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley will appear before a judge in a spur of the moment court appearance.
Should the West Memphis Three be granted a new trial in light of the new DNA evidence (tested between 2005 and 2007) which failed to link the three convicted men to the crime, and, in fact, linked one of the victim's step-father, Terry Hobbs and one of Hobbs' friends to the scene?
