Mitchell’s Ice Cream
South siders will definitely recognize the name Mitchell’s, as in Mitchell’s Ice Cream. The original Mitchell’s opened in 1931, and there’s still a brick-and-mortar store at 18211 Dixie Highway in Homewood (708.799.3835). But the real news is that eight flavors of the super premium, all natural or naturally flavored ice cream are now available in many grocery chains.
Included in the repertoire are banana chocolate chip, chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, mocha chocolate chip, and vanilla bean. As an added bonus, the Vanilla Bean Caramel Ribbon has caramel sauce ribboned throughout the ice cream, along with an added layer on top. Ditto for the Vanilla Bean Fudge Ribbon; only this time, it’s a rich fudge sauce.
Look for Mitchell’s Ice Cream at Pete’s, Strack & Van Til, Ultra Foods, Valli Produce, Angelo Caputo’s, Sunset Foods, and your local Jewel-Osco. Pints range from $3.49-$4.49.
