If you have been trying to register for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, odds are you have been having difficulty or receiving error messages, blocking you from registering.
As of 2:00PM, the race was on pace to sell out in 24 hours! Last year the race sold out in seven days. Social media was a buzz before the noon registration, running stores, coaches,, athletes all counting down to the big moment when registration opened.
On the marathon Facebook page, thousand of people are voicing their unhappiness with the registration blunder, some wanna be runners had tried for three hours without success.
A few things to remember, before you start an Epic Fail page.
- The registration is run by Active.com, so don’t be too hard on the folks at the marathon.
- Nobody could have predicted this kind of reaction. This isn’t Active’s first rodeo, they work with the Ironman, which sells out in a day. They are familiar with heavy traffic. While the Ironman is considerably smaller, this is a one in a million.
- If the race does sell out, it doesn’t mean that there are no longer spots available, as a matter of fact there are plenty of spots available as a charity runner.
Most charietes are allotted a certain number of entries to the race. If you agree to raise money for the charity, you get a free entry, coaching and other great stuff. Take your $170 and use it to be the first person to donate to your charity.
