In it’s 5th year, the Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Benefiting the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America has become a great early season tune up for runners who are running in Summer iron distance races, as well as people who are looking for the challenge of a great 13.1 race.
What makes the Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon, even more special is the fact that it is benefiting the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. Crohn's & Colitis isn't a "sexy" charity to support and not a lot of people know what Crohn's & Colitis are. For Allstate to support this charity is a class move.
Allstate has stepped up to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America the official charity of this years race, in an effort to help the people of all ages who suffer from these painful and sometimes deadly diseases. 1 in 200 people in America suffer from Crohn's & Colitis, the fastest growing instances are in kids.
Crohn's & Colitis are painful, debilitating diseases that affect millions of people a year Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are similar but a little different. Both diseases are autoimmune and cause the digestive tract to attack itself. Colitis only impacts the colon whereas Crohn's can be found anywhere in the digestive tract from the mouth on down.
Chicago has the strongest chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis foundation in the country, with a running team, training sessions and trips to other cities to race, like Kona, Edinburgh and Napa.
