This month marks the third birthday of Chicagonow and The Pace of Chicago.
Three years ago, there was this crazy idea to give bloggers a community to blog in, let the experts share their expertise under one roof. I was fortunate enough to be one of the initial 6 bloggers who helped launch the site.
At the time there was a lot of speculation on how successful a blog about endurance sports could be? How would it last throughout the Winter? Where would the content come from? How would it stay fresh?
Three years later, The Pace is the senior most blog on Chicagonow, not the most popular, or the sexiest, but the one that keeps on running. It's very much indicative of the endurance sports world, it's not fueled by multi-million dollar contracts, cheer leaders or glossy high profile ads. It's fueled by the men, women and children and brands who are passionate about endurance sports.
You have made The Pace what it is, your passion, information, tips, brands and advice and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was pointed out to me that "lately" I have been letting The Pace become a little "single brand focused," looking back, it's a valid point and something that will change. I love your news, pictures, ideas and events, so keep them coming!
After three years there have been so many amazing memories and opportunities that have been afforded to me, from you. Starting with the pros at the Lifetime Chicago Triathlon, terrifying and amazing. Flying to New York with Gatorade to go through their Sports Science Institute- Fun, painful and informative. Being a part of so many charities, has been an honor. Watching thousands of you cross the finish line and hearing your stories, again an honor. Getting to know the folks at Athletico and the amazing job they do with such care, forever in their debt. Sitting alone with Craig Alexander, drinking a beer with Rindi and sharing beauty tips with Chrissie, all memories I will have forever. Being slow, fat and old, but being able to tear up the streets on my Trek Speed Concept or rip through the waves in my TYR Freak of Nature, so very cool. The list goes on and on.
The single memory that stands out and will be with me forever is "running with Dan," aka Cubicle Dad. Traveling along on his journey to fitness and a new life, brings tears to my eyes as I sit here and write.
Now, for the gifts to you on our birthday! If you read The Pace, then you know I am a freak for Dunkin Donuts "everything," I am also a little in love with Will Smith and when I found out there was a new Men in Black coming out, I squealed like a tween around "The Beeb."
My friends at Dunkin Donuts gave me 8 sets of two tickets (16 tickets) to the Chicago premiere of Men in Black 3D for Wednesday May 23rd at 7:00PM at the Showplace Icon. They are mine to do with what I want, and I want to share them with you.
This is a part of their Men in Black 3D promotion and new yummy menu items Black Cocoa Creme Iced Coffee, Undercover Black Cocoa Donut – a star shaped yeast donut filled with brownie batter butter crème and topped with chocolate icing and star sprinkles and a Chocolate Lunarmax Donut – a glazed chocolate cake donut with rich chocolate icing drizzle and star sprinkles.
They are all "out of this world" (insert rim shot!)
Here's the deal. Answer one of the three trivia questions correctly and you are entered to win tickets and come celebrate a great movie, yummy donuts and our third birthday!
What was the Light of Zartha, Laura Vasquez's, former job on Earth?
Which popular novel about intergalactic space travel is referenced several times in MIB and MIB2?
Where is MIB headquarters located?
The screening is at 7 p.m., Wed., May 23, at Showplace Icon. We will announce the winners on Saturday. Leave your answers below and you are entered to win!
Thanks to you all! Forward is a Pace and the Pace keeps on keeping on.
