Venus de Miles Announces Women's Only Ride in Illinois.

There are women specific triathlons and running races in the Chicago area, now Venus de Miles is taking over the roads of the North Shore with their women's only ride.

Sunday, July 29, 2012.Venus de Miles, Illinois’ first all-women’s road bike ride will take place in Lake Forest. The inaugural race was announced by Teresa Robbins, the founder and race director who says Illinois was a natural choice for expansion. “When we were scouting areas to host another ride we fell in love with Lake Forest and the possibilities the route has to offer,” says Robbins, who is based in Boulder Colorado, where the ride was first introduced.

Venus de Miles will offer two course options, 30 and 60 miles. All distances will begin at Lake Forest College (500 N. Sheridan Road, Lake Forest).  Registration is now open and fees are starting at $79 before April 1, 2012.  A post-race expo follows the ride complete with women’s specific vendors, prizes, wine and beer.  For registration and more about specifics on the race click here.

Venus de Miles stands for a celebration of sisterhood, fun, and a way to support the Greenhouse Scholars.  It has become popular with thousands of women cyclists.  Since its inception, Colorado’s first all-women’s road ride has raised $380,981 for Greenhouse Scholars.   Organizers hope by adding another ride in Illinois, they will be able to provide scholarships to Illinois youth as well.

Greenhouse Scholars will grant 10 scholarships in Illinois in its first year.
