Over the past 6 years the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove has become known as a great event in the cycling community, with great cash prizes and amazing competition. This year the event has been recognized as a premiere event on an international basis, which should bring even more cyclists from around the world to race on the streets of this Chicago suburb.
The Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove has, for the first time, been given globally-prestigious designation as a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) race in 2011. Which means the quality of the race is so high from an organizational to a competitive stand point the UCI has taken notice and granted this distinction. It's a big deal!
Based in Switzerland, UCI (aka International Cycling Union) is the world governing body for sports cycling, it oversees international competitive cycling events.
If you want to check out some world class cycling action live, then the Tour Of Elk Grove is the place to be. Tour of Elk Grove's spotlight competition is a three-stage Men's Pro Race held over three days with more than $106,000 in total prize money. This is the largest prize purse for a men's 3-day, 3-stage pro race in North America.
The single cash prize for the overall individual winner of the 3-day, 3-stage men's pro race is $25,000. For the women's 3-day, 3-stage pro race it's $4,500.
In addition, the Elk Grove-headquartered Heart of a Marine Foundation, which works with U.S. military vets, will host Tour of Elk Grove's first-ever "adaptive athlete" race on Sunday morning that's open to all adaptive athletes.
