The Twin Lakes Triathlon is the race that started my journey into endurance sports. A sprint, organized on by The Salt Creek Rural Park District in Palatine and run by Mark Rouse and his crew from Runners High n' Tri. in Arlington Heights, I try to get back to Twin Lakes each year not for nostalgic reasons, but because it is the best sprint distance triathlon in Chicago.
Whenever asks me about doing their first triathlon or is looking for a great race to try, I send them to Twin Lakes. This race is one of the best kept secrets in town. The 700 meter swim, 14 mile bike and 4.9 mile run, isn't the flashiest race around or the most difficult, but it is run with a style and laid back manner that has athletes of all abilities jockeying for the 500 open spots.
Monday morning, March 15th, registration for Twin Lakes opens and is guaranteed to sell out fast.
