Olympic Gold Medalist Shani Davis will be returning home to Evanston today and you can join in the homecoming celebration. Shani Davis Welcome Home Celebration will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Robert Crown Community Center and Ice Complex, in Evanston.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The festivities will kick off with a celebration where Shani will be given a special plaque commemorating his amazing accomplishments (he was given the Key to the city after the Turin games).
There is a special presentation, that organizers are keeping a secret until tonight. Following the ceremony, there will be refreshments in the gym, where fans and friends will be able to meet Shani, take a few pictures and welcome him home.
Davis learned to skate at Robert Crown Center as a member of the Evanston Speedskating Club.
At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Davis won his second gold and second silver medals. This past weekend, he completed the 2009-2010 season as the Overall World Cup Champion in both the 1000m and 1500m events, compiling an unmatched 12 World Cup victories.
